Russian River; Rock, Paper Scissors
This soaring new construction was designed to take advantage of its position on the top of a steep hill above Dry Creek Valley and the Russian River. The architecture and landscape celebrate the drama of terracing and striking 360 degree views of the sky and surrounding vineyards.
Oxbow worked with the landscape architects, Merge Studio, to reclaim the hillside from challenged access by installing steel and corten retaining walls and planters, concrete paving and stairs with metal handrails. The newly constructed planters and concrete water feature step down the steep hill to emphasize the terracing of the landscape.
Oxbow expanded the pool area out into the landscape with new bluestone paving and pool coping. We also installed native textural grasses and low-water, low-growing ground covers specified by the landscape architect to discourage invasive exotic plants and allow the architecture to fly far above the landscape.
